03What you need

Node — and that's the requirement

Node 22.5+. The installers do the rest; there's one for Windows and one for Mac/Linux. Ollama is optional — install it only if you want the companion's brain running locally instead of through an API.

A brain to plug in

One of three: a Claude API key, Ollama running a local model on your own machine, or any OpenAI-compatible server. The adapter is a setting, not a rewrite — start on one and move to another whenever you want.

Run the 29-test verification suite when you're done. It's there so "it works" is something you check, on your hardware, rather than something we assert on a sales page.
